A city chic wedding at Fulham Palace - Katie and Simon | London wedding photographer

Fulham Palace London city wedding_0027.jpg

What do you get when you cross an outgoing, fun-loving bride with an emotionally repressed (his words, not mine!) groom who absolutely hates having his photo taken? Katie and Simon. The most gorgeous couple who got married at Fulham Palace on Saturday and invited me along to photograph it.

I LOVE a city wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of a glorious sunset, rolling hills and a couple strolling through an overgrown field, but I’ve got a soft spot for all things urban. Whizzing around in a black cab on the way to/from the wedding, well wishes from passers by and finding hidden corners for photographs. Plus hanging out in London is always fun.  I managed to meet up with two of my couples who are getting married in Italy and also meet friends for Sunday brunch at Maltby Street market. Happy Claire!

I knew I was in for a real belter of a day when I arrived on Saturday and Katie’s Dad, Kevin, was busy making the girls French 75 cocktails (which I now know is champagne, gin, lemon juice and sugar syrup topped with a squeezed lemon rind). This was my kind of bride prep.

Katie also gets the award for my most chilled out bride of the year - possibly ever. But then I suspect a wedding is a walk in the park when you’re an A&E doctor! I’m pretty sure she didn’t stop smiling/laughing once all day.

A location doesn’t make a wedding… the people do… (I know I know, cheesy AF, but true). However, there’s something about a ceremony in a place jam-packed with history that I love. Imagine all the life that Fulham Palace has seen and the stories it has played a part in… and now it marks the beginning of a new chapter in Katie and Simon’s lives. It also makes a pretty incredible backdrop to a wedding day.

Confetti was a highlight, we all gathered in the Tudor courtyard and, due to the 140 guests, made Simon and Katie take an epic walk around the fountain and back to the sound of cheering as they were showered in colourful petals (some thrown directly into Katie’s face - “thanks cuz!”) .

After a handful of group shots with close family and one of the best “wedding squads” we sent them back to the fizz and canapes while the three of us went to do some quick couple portraits. I was given the key to Fulham Palace’s walled garden - a proper key too, you know one of those massive ones? An absolutely beautiful hidden oasis with a pretty church in the background and a beautiful old apple tree. It felt like a million miles from any city.

Then after dinner and some brilliant speeches it was time to party. I knew these two would be doing things differently. Forget a first dance, instead the (INCREDIBLE) band kicked into action even before the cake cut was complete - Hall and Oates “You Make My Dreams Come True” blasted out and Katie and Simon dove into the crowd for a mass danceathon.

Katie and Simon, you utter legends. You may have made me work my arse off during the portraits Simon but I love a challenge and you were worth it! Seriously though, what a day, what a dancefloor, what a couple! I loved every second.

Michelle & Mark’S SUMMER WEDDING AT Villa di Ulignano | Tuscany Wedding Photographer

The sound of Michelle’s laughter echoing all around the villa… the looks she and Mark shared between them… the photobombing cat… the group singalong to Wonderwall as everyone surrounded Michelle & Mark on the dancefloor… only having one group shot… the tear jerking speech by Mark’s Dad… the amazing mille feuille cake created right in front of our eyes (and demolished in half the time)… see photos for the full story.

Michelle & Mark - you are the most wonderful couple, anyone can see how deeply in love you are and it was just such a magical day from start to finish. Thank you for having me along to tell your story. xxx

A stylish Sefton Park Palm House wedding, Liverpool - Jayne & Karim

Sefton Park Palm House wedding Liverpool_0039.jpg

As things get quieter for me in these winter months I actually start to miss shooting a little - as much as I love time at home and don't get me wrong, I do... especially a Saturday lie-in!  But I have been itching to shoot at Sefton Palm House for ages and it certainly did not disappoint on Saturday for Jayne & Karim's wedding... it's just the most incredible setting and the flowers by none other than Joseph Massie were a perfect blend of winter wedding meets tropical palm house.  Stunning.

Jayne had been telling me about the first time she and Karim met and how neither were particularly impressed with one another... but fast forward a few years... their paths crossed again and BOOM.  They are just SO good together, it's clear to see.  Both of their speeches brought more than a few tears to the room, their love for one another is so evident.

It was the happiest of days... family, friends, laughter, music, smiles and dancing... lots of dancing.  A beautiful first dance, an amazing hora (pure joy) and then, right before I left... Karim's former boss... doing Gangnam Style.  Mr Ed Balls himself.  As a huge fan of Strictly I was unashamedly giddy.  The man has some serious moves.

Jayne & Karim... it was simply wonderful.  You and all your friends and family were so much fun and so damn lovely.  Happy happy honeymoon... I hope you enjoy this small selection of previews and we'll catch up when you get back! xx

A magical Volterra & Villa di Ulignano wedding in Tuscany, Italy - Kate & Taz

Volterra and Villa di Ulignano wedding Tuscany_0063.jpg

So after weeks of travelling for destination weddings in France and Italy, I finally shot my last one on Saturday in the beautiful city of Volterra, Tuscany and the nearby Villa di Ulignano.  And what a wedding!  I sometimes have to pinch myself when I see some of the places I get to shoot and seeing the Town Hall in Volterra was one of those times.  The oldest town hall in Tuscany, it is absolutely breathtaking.  Add to that the beauty of the villa and I was pretty giddy.

Kate and Tariq aka Taz booked me 18 months ago before they even had a venue though.  They wanted to get me booked in and I am so happy they did!  Two more lovely people you couldn't wish to meet... Kate is the quiet 'planner' and Taz the self-confessed joker and life & soul of this and (I imagine) any party.  And they compliment one another absolutely perfectly.

The day ran like clockwork thanks to Francesca and Racquel at Wedding Italy (thank you for looking after everyone, me included!) and the band were none other than those ridiculously talented, cheeky chappies Brightlights who Kate found on this very blog.

I also had partners in crime on the day - the lovely Yana who came along to second shoot (I can't wait to see your photos) and videographers Ben & Sam from Ben Walton Films... I will forever remember driving up the steep, bumpy dirt road to the villa... Ben flying the drone from the moving car... and both us and the drone trying to catch up with K&T in their little Fiat!  (Taz is clearly The Stig because they won!)

Kate & Taz... thank you... for choosing me, for trusting me and for being so wonderful.  I had the BEST time.  You, your friends and family are amazing and had I not had such an early flight home the next day I would have absolutely stayed to party with you all!

Anyway, enjoy these previews and we'll catch up soon.  Happy honeymooning and lots of love. xxxx

Umbrian destination wedding in Italy at Casa Bruciata - Allison & Mark

Umbria destination wedding Italy Casa Bruciata 00054.jpg

I write this from Tuscany with some very limited wifi, hence the shorter than usual post.  Just keen for these guys to see their previews asap!

Casa Bruciata... tucked away in the Umbrian hills... surrounded by olive groves... an absolutely enchanting place. I was so thrilled and excited to be back there last week for Allison & Mark's wedding.

Everything was beautiful... Allison's blush dress, the flowers and styling by Roberta Turco, the food (wow), the views and of course, the people.  Friends and family from Baltimore (and other places in the US I'm sure!) all flew over to celebrate with these two.  The atmosphere all day was just incredible.

Allison & Mark... I hope you are enjoying your amazing honeymoon!  Enjoy these previews. :)  xxx
