Stylish wedding at The West Mill, Derby featuring a Choccywoccydoodah inspired wedding cake and New York Brass Band - Olivia & Jay

Stylish West Mill wedding, Derby_0054.jpg

A couple of weeks ago I got to shoot the seriously fun and stylish wedding of Olivia & Jay. I'd been dying to shoot at The West Mill for a long time and it did not disappoint... I can't wait to go back!  Such a beautiful setting.

Apart from the location, little touches, beautiful dress and decor - the flowers and wedding cake in particular were absolutely beautiful. They did the florals themselves and Liv's mum MADE the wedding cake... the day before the wedding. I mean WTF?!  Serious skills!  And she's not even a cake maker by trade.  (I can also confirm that it tasted as impressive as it looked - chocolate orange goodness).

Then came the dancing and the incredible New York Brass Band who I'd heard so much about.  Again, they did not disappoint.

Olivia & Jay... I don't think I stopped smiling all day, and you two certainly didn't.  It was such a wonderful day. Thanks for choosing me and I hope you enjoy these previews.  XXX

A Scottish/Cornish wedding at Launcells Barton, Bude, Cornwall - Tess & Thom

A very quick post this morning as I'm heading off to shoot beautiful weddings in York today and then in France this weekend.  Yes, I know. #lucky

What a wedding. What a venue (Launcells Barton). And what an amazing couple Tess & Thom are. I absolutely loved spending time with them and their friends and family.

From the cute kiddos in kilts (or not as the case may be!) to the little details (or big ones like the arch - nice welding Thom), the surprise revelations during the speeches (about Tess, for granny) and that glorious sunset to end the day. It was bloody marvellous.

I hope you an amazing week together 'off the grid' and that these previews will ease you back into the real world gently. Lots of love. xx

Bubble guns, glitter and gold at a Tower Hill Barns wedding, Llangollen, North Wales - Bex & George

I've been itching to blog this wedding... Bex & George are the most wonderfully laid back couple who are blessed with the best groups of friends and family you could wish for.

I was lucky enough to have my girl, the one and only Andrea Ellison second shooting with me which was amazing as we so rarely get to work together these days... the pair of us didn't stop smiling all day!

The weather... well it was absolutely shit to be honest (although thankfully it stayed dry long enough for us to get through the ceremony) but nobody was going to let a bit of stubbornly persistant rain stop them from having a good time.  Especially when there was a glitter station, an INCREDIBLE brass band (Drum & Brass) and bubble guns.  Not to mention the amazing florals, little nods to Bex's circle obsession throughout and the striking bridesmaids, each in their own chosen gold dress.

A shout out to Jo and the rest of the team at Tower Hill Barns who were just incredible - thanks for looking after us as well as you did the guests, and for the most delicious food we've had at a wedding in a LONG time!

Bex & George... you were so fab and easy to work with, you are utterly adorable together and I wish you nothing but happiness.  Lots of love. xx

An Aussie/Yorkshire wedding at Hazel Gap Barn, Nottinghamshire - Alyssar & Stephen

I am blessed to work with amazing couples every year and lucky enough that some of them end up becoming friends.  When I first chatted to Alyssar & Steve on Skype we hit it off right away and I mentioned that I was over in Sydney for a wedding and said we should meet up.  They insisted that they were taking me out for dinner and it was one of the highlights of my trip... we went to this beautiful little tapas place and had a brilliant night just chatting and laughing and eating... and laughing... and eating.

Fast forward to their wedding a couple of weeks back - it was so good to see them both again - cue hugs and smiles all round.  I was basically a guest, sat on the best table (naturally - hello table buddies!) and generally one of the gang.  I can't tell you how welcoming and just damn bloody lovely Alyssar & Steve are. It was an absolutely wonderful day - amazing bridesmaids (thanks for the perfume!), groomsmen, family and friends, a wonderful celebrant and truly lovely setting.  Plus it's always a bonus to get to catch up with talented industry pals like the one and only Jenn Edwards & Co hair and make-up who did an incredible job as always.

I was so touched when a card arrived yesterday (points for the most organised newlywed go to you Alyssar - posting it whilst on/before your honeymoon!). It reads:

Dearest Claire, A giant THANK YOU, we are so thrilled that you were able to be a part of our wedding day.  Not only because we do think that you are the most wonderful photographer in the world, you're unparalleled. When we first saw your photos online we were blown away.  BUT ALSO - when we met we felt we made a friend and we are so happy that we have been able to share this experience with someone like you. You are a ray of sunshine, a bloody talent and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  From the sneak peeks we've seen so far our jaws have been dragging on the floor and we've been giggling - all in excitement. "HOLY COW, IS THAT US?!" we keep saying! You are an absolute master.  Alyssar & Steve xxx  #PENN-OMENAL  ;-)  P.S. You'll always have a 2nd home in Sydney - don't forget!! <3

*sniff*  Thank you.

So Nareys... get yourselves a couple of fresh drinks from the bar, raise one on my behalf and enjoy these previews.  I'll be seeing you again I hope.  Lots and lots of love. xxxx

An intimate London pub wedding at Paradise by way of Kensall Green - Emily & James

Girl checks Tinder.  Boy arrives in Seattle from the UK.  Boy also checks Tinder (he says, because he doesn't know anyone yet).  One week later they meet up.  She thinks he's a bit keen having only been in the US for one week.

He wins her over.

The rest is history.

I cannot tell you how wonderful it was to be part of Emily & James' beautiful, laid back, intimate wedding... bursting to the rafters with love and laughter (and yes, I am aware I sound like a cliche fucking motivational poster).  But it WAS.  Emily's family flew over from Seattle and went adventuring around Ireland and Scotland en route to London and James' family travelled down from Newcastle and that was it.  Just their families, the two of them, and me.

The ceremony was wonderful... officiated by Emily's brother-in-law and with no official start time... (Emily: "We'll just get there when we get there")... they said their vows in the most beautiful room... in 'Paradise'... and I'm pretty sure everyone, including me, cried.
